The Kemp Town Network |
Experts on tap... |
The
Kemptown Network is an open, voluntary group of local residents who get together
to bring social life, working life, facilities, opportunities, and of course
fun back into their community.
Founded in the summer of 1998, we've been working to provide opportunities for individuals and groups who want to share skills, make contacts, and turn their dreams into realities!
Already, the Network has brought together many people who have started to share skills and experience - something like a "local exchange trading scheme" but with value placed entirely on people, not commodities or currency.
Projects include sending locally-raised funds and other essentials to the people of Kosova.
For the future, we would like to open an information point and work with other groups to open up community spaces where people can meet, take part in training sessions, tell stories, make music, rehearse, listen, read, play...
In 1999 we were lucky enough to receive a grant from the Scarman Trust, who were so impressed by the ethos of the network that we were invited to make a keynote speech at the presentation of awards in London, where we also met the government's Culture Secretary, Chris Smith MP.
If you can have fun; if you want to make a difference; if you have strong opinions; or if you just want to meet some of your neighbours - we want to know about it! The Network is not currently holding regular meetings - rather, we prefer to leap into action whenever somebody has a project in mind. If you would like an informal chat and a chance to meet some of the people involved, please do get in touch.
